In a bid to enhance the quality of education and teaching practices of our students, Kenya Highlands University School of Education and Social Sciences led by the Dean of School, Dr. Daniel Ngeno, Head of the Department of Education and the faculty organized and participated in a training session on Competency-Based Education (CBE) for our 4th Year students.
The training, held at the university, aimed to equip the students with a comprehensive understanding of the essence of CBE, the distinction between Competency-Based Curriculum (CBC) and Knowledge-Based Curriculum (KBC), 21st-century skills that the students require which are necessary for the job market.
The two day training commenced with an in-depth exploration of the essence of CBC from the facilitator,Dr. John Kitur from Africa International University.
Competency-Based Education focuses on the development and mastery of specific skills, knowledge, and attitudes required for success in various fields. It emphasizes outcomes and aims to produce graduates who are not only knowledgeable but also possess the practical abilities and competencies demanded by the job market.
While addressing the students during the closing session, our Vice Chancellor Prof. Joseph Kiplangat appreciated the facilitator and the department for organizing such a great session. He was grateful that the training has come at the right time since we have aligned our courses to CBC assuring that the other students will have modules related to CBC. There will be other sessions that will be done before the students graduate.
We wish all our students success in all their endeavours.
