The School of Health Sciences is one of the six schools within the University, among them:
The School of Health Sciences and Nursing Department
The School of Health Sciences launched in February 2021, houses Nursing Department which is currently training Bachelor of Science in Nursing (BSN) using a Competency-Based Curriculum, a curriculum which is designed to accommodate the changing context in which the BSN nurse will be required to practice. The Curriculum has taken into consideration the context of the learner, the setting and the knowledge and skills required of a professional nurse practitioner within the legal framework, that aims at producing graduate professional nurses who can transfer their knowledge and skills in a variety of health care contexts found within Kenya and beyond. The intention of this curriculum is to serve as a tool that will enhance the realization of Universal Health Care as envisioned in Kenya’s Constitution and Vision 2030. This competency-based curriculum is particularly integrated with respect to theory and practice and is specifically set to produce graduate nurses who can think critically, reflect on practice and possess lifelong learning skills.
As a way forward, the School of Health Sciences has developed an Upgrade Bachelor of Science Nursing programme and is ready to enroll the first batch of students in March 2024. The Curriculum covers the following FOUR key Thematic Areas, i.e. General Nursing, Midwifery, Community Health Nursing and Nursing Education, Leadership, Management and Research.
