Kenya Highlands University continues to strengthen its commitment to quality academic support services through professional engagement and collaboration. Our University Librarian, Ms. Jane Langat, joined fellow university librarians and heads of university libraries from across Kenya for a two-day Kenya University Libraries Committee (KULC) Consultative Workshop held at Kabarak University from 16th to 17th September 2026.
The workshop brought together university library leaders to discuss emerging issues affecting university libraries and explore strategies for strengthening professional practice and service delivery within Kenya’s higher education sector. The discussions provided an opportunity for participants to share experiences, exchange ideas, and reflect on the changing role of university libraries in supporting teaching, learning, research, and knowledge sharing.
Among the key areas discussed were the revitalization of KULC, the KULC Constitution, CBC preparedness in university libraries, and issues affecting university librarians. Participants also considered ways of enhancing collaboration and ensuring that university libraries remain responsive to the changing needs of learners, researchers, and academic communities.
A significant highlight of the workshop was the discussion on Artificial Intelligence (AI) in university libraries. Participants explored an AI Policy Template, emerging best practices, and the need for appropriate policies to guide the responsible adoption and use of AI. The discussions underscored the importance of embracing technological innovation while ensuring that its application within university libraries is guided by responsible and professional practices.
KHU’s participation in the consultative workshop reflects the University’s commitment to continuous professional development, collaboration, innovation, and excellence in library services. Through such engagements, the University continues to provide opportunities for staff to network, share knowledge, and keep abreast of emerging trends in higher education.
The knowledge and insights gained from the workshop will contribute to strengthening library services at KHU and enhancing the support provided to students, faculty, and researchers in advancing teaching, learning, research, and knowledge sharing.
