A delegation from the Ministry of Health, through the Counsellors and Psychologists Board, paid a courtesy visit to the Vice Chancellor, Prof. Joseph Kiplangat, for a stakeholder consultative meeting focused on the Board’s mandate of indexing students pursuing Counselling Psychology.
The delegation was led by Mr David Mahinda and Mr. Victor Osoo, and accompanied by Mr. Enock Thayu, Mrs. Maryann Rop, and Mr.Gabriel Kauru.
The consultative meeting provided a strategic platform for engagement on regulatory frameworks governing the training and professional development of counselling psychology students. Central to the discussions was the indexing process, a statutory requirement that facilitates the formal recognition of students and ensures compliance with established professional and ethical standards.
This engagement underscored the critical role of collaboration between regulatory bodies and institutions of higher learning as like Kenya Highlands University in maintaining the integrity and quality of academic programmes. By aligning institutional training with the Board’s guidelines, universities are better positioned to produce graduates who are competent, ethically grounded, and responsive to the evolving mental health needs of society.
The visit reaffirmed a shared commitment to strengthening professional practice in counselling psychology through structured oversight, continuous stakeholder engagement, and adherence to national standards.
