First-Year Orientation Day Three: Navigating ICT, Academic Systems and University Life

The First-Year Students’ Orientation Programme at Kenya Highlands University continued successfully on Day Three, with students receiving practical and essential information aimed at helping them make a smooth transition into university life and confidently navigate their academic journey.

The day focused on equipping students with knowledge of the University’s ICT services, with particular emphasis on academic ICT services, the ERP Portal and Online and Distance e-Learning (ODeL). Through these sessions, students were introduced to the digital platforms and resources they will use to access academic information, learning materials, communication services and other essential university services.

Students were also taken through the University Academic Regulations and Policies, giving them a better understanding of the rules, procedures, responsibilities and expectations that guide academic life at the University. The session emphasized the importance of academic discipline, compliance with university policies and responsible participation in the learning process.

Another key area covered was unit registration. Students were guided on the process of registering for their academic units and the importance of ensuring that their registration is completed accurately and within the stipulated timelines. This will enable them to effectively plan and participate in their academic programmes.

The orientation also introduced students to Lecturer Evaluation and Quality Assurance (QA). They were enlightened on the importance of providing constructive feedback on teaching and learning experiences and how lecturer evaluation contributes to maintaining and continuously improving the quality of education at the University.

Day Three therefore provided an important opportunity for students to understand not only the academic systems and digital platforms available to them, but also their responsibilities as members of the Kenya Highlands University community.

As the orientation programme progresses, the University remains committed to ensuring that every first-year student is adequately prepared, informed and supported as they begin their journey towards academic excellence, personal growth and purposeful service.
