Day 2 of the New Students’ Orientation at Kenya Highlands University was a great success as the University continued to equip new students with essential information to help them begin their academic journey with confidence. The day brought together students and staff from various Schools and departments, creating an opportunity for students to learn more about their respective academic programmes and the services available to support them throughout their university life.
The dean and faculty from various Schools took time to introduce students to the programmes offered and explained the academic expectations, opportunities, and responsibilities associated with their studies. The sessions helped students gain a better understanding of their chosen programmes while encouraging them to take responsibility for their academic progress. Students were also encouraged to interact freely with lecturers, academic advisers, and other members of staff whenever they require academic guidance and support.
An important part of the day’s programme was the session on student recruitment and marketing. Students were reminded that they are important ambassadors of Kenya Highlands University and that their experiences, achievements, conduct, and interactions with others contribute significantly to the University’s image and reputation. They were encouraged to share information about the University’s programmes and opportunities with friends, relatives, former schoolmates, and other prospective students. The session also emphasized the importance of responsible use of social media in promoting positive stories and experiences about the University.
Safety and security also featured prominently during the orientation. Students were sensitized on the importance of observing University safety guidelines, remaining vigilant, and taking personal responsibility for their safety and that of others. They were encouraged to report any security concerns, incidents, or suspicious activities to the appropriate authorities and to cooperate with security personnel in maintaining a safe and conducive learning environment.
The students also received valuable information on finance services. They were guided on financial procedures, fee-related matters, payment processes, and the importance of maintaining proper records of their financial transactions. Students were encouraged to seek clarification from the relevant University offices whenever they have questions or concerns regarding their fees and other financial matters.
Library services were another key area covered during the day’s orientation. Students were introduced to the library facilities and the academic resources available to support their studies. They were encouraged to make effective use of books, journals, reference materials, and other learning resources available through the University library. The session also emphasized the importance of developing good reading, research, and information-seeking habits as students transition into university-level learning.
